It’s funny how much RDJ and Marvel’s stories parallel each other. During the 90s and early 2000s, Marvel was in a real bad spot. That’s why X-Men, FF, and Spideys’ film rights are owned by other studios. They had to be sold off. Meanwhile, RDJ was a washed-up alcoholic (and I think drug-addict too, but I could be wrong). He, too, was in a real bad spot. But then Marvel consolidated its resources and used the money it got selling off film rights for its characters to get an Iron Man film off the ground, and they found RDJ and decided, “Yeah, this could work,” and what do you know? It did. Marvel and RDJ really did save each other. The fact that here we are just 10 years later, and the MCU that started with Iron Man is the biggest franchise of all time, and it all started with these two rescuing each other from near-unwinnable situations, I think that is kinda beautiful.
